The 2023 Annual University of Waterloo Accounting Conference (UWAC) marks the 18th year of our commitment to supporting first year students at the beginning of their careers.

With 195 delegates, this year's event stands as our biggest conference to date, providing opportunities for undergraduate students to hone their skills and expand their networks. Through a blend of enriching workshops, engaging networking, and the flagship case competition, we continue our tradition of empowering students on their journey towards excellence in accounting and beyond.

UWAC 2023 Conference

This year’s conference hosted in University of Waterloo’s Hagey Hall featured 48 teams in an accounting case competition with preliminary, semifinal, and final presentation rounds.

The conference also featured 8 workshops presented by our corporate sponsors that taught valuable skills to our delegates. Moreover, delegates were given the opportunity to network and learn from a multitude of accounting professionals from a variety of firms.

This workshop provided delegates with key tips and tricks to help them nail their interview, stand out as a top candidate in the recruitment process, and network like an experienced professional.

 

PwC: Building your personal brand

Unlock the power of your unique professional identity with PwC's dynamic workshop on "Building Your Personal Brand." In an era where individuality and authenticity are valued assets, this immersive session is designed to empower you with the tools and insights needed to curate a compelling personal brand that resonates in both your personal and professional spheres.

 

Deloitte: Exploring the Possibilities of Generative AI

We joined Deloitte as they gave a fresh perspective on the integration of Generative AI, teaching delegates what Generative AI is, various internal and external risks, and how we can utilize AI in our work.

 

MNP: Day in the Life As A Senior Accountant at MNP

This workshop included a brief overview showcasing MNP’s history and values. Ashley Pranajaya, a University of Waterloo graduate from the Bachelors of Science in Biotechnology/Chartered Professional Accountancy and Masters of Accounting also told delegates about her transition from a student to full-time employment, her journey with MNP, and a day in her life.

 

RSM: Technology Innovation in Assurance

Delegates gained the opportunity to learn exactly how RSM Canada has taken assurance to the next level using the latest technology.

 
 
 

EY: Succeed in the EY Application Process

       and Establish your Career in Accounting

As many students are planning their co-op terms and getting a head start on applications, this workshop provided the how-to on recruitment and the process for delegate’s upcoming co-op term! Benjamin and Michael covered the EY Application process as well as gave tips & tricks on how to stand out. The workshop assisted in developing key soft skills, resume building and professional insight into the 21st Century!

 

KPMG: Transferrable Skills and How to Articulate Them

This workshop discussed what transferrable skills are, how to find yours and how delegates can articulate them in networking sessions, interviews, and other professional stages.

 

GGFL: Difference Between Big-4 Accounting

             Firms and Mid-Sized Firms              

GGFL taught delegates about how the choice between the two depends on individual career goals and preferences, as each offers unique opportunities and experiences in the field of accounting.
