UWAC 2022!

Enabling exciting opportunities, finally back in-person.

The University of Waterloo Accounting Conference is committed to cultivating a unique environment to help students take their next step into the professional industry.

This year we were excited to return to our first in-person conference after the pandemic. We brought unique opportunities to undergraduate students to develop their skills through networking opportunities, various workshops, and our annual UWAC conference.

We kicked it off with UWAC Launch 2022.

Upkar is the CEO of Rally Assets Inc. Canada’s leading impact investment management and advisory firm has served in various senior management roles and on the Boards of organizations in education, healthtech, fintech, and arts and culture.

Alongside his industry experience, Upkar is an adjunct lecturer at the University of Waterloo and has most recently received the 2022 Distinguished Teacher Award. Upkar is an FCPA, FCA, having been awarded the accounting profession’s highest mark of distinction, the Fellow designation, in 2017. He holds the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors through Rotman and is a BMW Foundation Global Responsible Leader.

UWAC 2022 Conference

For the 17th annual case conference, UWAC returned to its in-person conference with over 150+ delegates gathering together to compete in an accounting case competition.

This year’s conference also featured various interactive workshops, networking opportunities, and numerous prizes for competing teams!

Richter is one of the largest independent business advisory and accounting firms in Canada. We joined Richter as they talked about the different service lines that the operate in such as: financial consulting, accounting, and business advisory.

 

Scotiabank: Career in front office global banking & market

We learned more about the exciting world of global banking & markets through firsthand experiences and key insights from industry professionals. Delegates also had the opportunity to learn directly from experienced employees!

 
 

Deloitte: ESG – The Three Pillars to a Sustainable Future

We explored ESG (environmental, social, and corporate governance) – the three pillars of a sustainable future with Deloitte! We learned more about how adopting ESG metrics impact business operations and practices, and what this means for you as the future workforce!

 

MNP: Transitioning From A Post-Covid Environment

This workshop provided key insights into the work environment, including the importance of a work/life balance and other areas applicable to your work in the industry! Delegates learned more about finding their personal working style and hybrid learning.

 

RSM: Diversity in Accounting – The power of inclusion

We joined Dan Booth, RSM Canada’s Campus Recruiting Lead for this interactive workshop that got participants thinking about the importance of inclusion in the accounting professional and where inclusion really does start with “I”!

 
 
 

EY: How to Succeed in the Application Process at EY

This workshop provided the how-to on recruitment and the process for your upcoming co-op term! Benjamin, one of your lead EY recruiters, covered the EY Application process as well as gave tips & tricks on how to stand out.

 

KPMG: Networking 101 - Best Practices While Recruiting

For many students, networking can seem extremely daunting. We joined Daynica as she provided vital information on how you should approach networking as a university student while giving you the best practices to keep in mind when recruiting to ensure that you can further your career in accounting & finance.

 

GGFL: The Benefits of a Mid-Sized Firm

This workshop took a deep dive into what life is like at GGFL and all the benefits associated with working for the firm. Delegates learned directly from employees about different aspects of their job and gained a better understanding of the industry.
